Distortion minimization and continuity preservation in surface pasting

چکیده
Surface pasting is a hierarchical modeling technique capable of adding local details to tensor product Bspline surfaces without incurring significant computational costs. In this paper, we describe how the continuity conditions of this technique can be improved through the use of least squares fitting and the application of some general B-spline continuity properties. More importantly, we address distortion issues inherent to the standard pasting technique by using an alternative mapping of the interior control points.

Cylindrical Surface Pasting
In the paper, we present cylindrical surface pasting, an extension of standard surface pasting that uses the surface pasting technique to attach two surfaces. The major issues discussed here are the domain mappings and the mapping of the feature control points. There are two types of domain mappings, depending on whether we paste a cylinder onto a NUBS sheet or another NUBS cylinder. The mappin...

In this paper, we explore several extensions to surface pasting. In particular, using the task of modelling a ferret as a driving force, we improved the user interface for cylindrical pasting; we looked at methods for reducing the distortion of pasted features; and we created a method for pasting trimmed features to allow for features that do not have the rectilinear shape of standard pasting.

In computer animation, the animator spends a lot of time modeling. Surface pasting is a composition method in which a feature surface is attached to a base surface to provide details on the underlying surface. With surface pasting, the user can quickly and easily model faces and other objects with small details. Thus, surface pasting may be a useful animation technique because it reduces the mo...
متن کاملGrowing Fitted Textures
In this paper, we address the problem of how to seamlessly and without repetition artifacts or visible projective distortion cover the surface of a polygonally-defined model with a texture pattern derived from an acquired 2D image such that the dominant orientation of the pattern will everywhere follow the surface shape in an aesthetically pleasing way. Specifically, we propose an efficient, au...
متن کاملNon-Distorted Texture Mapping Using Angle Based Flattening
This article introduces a new method for surface parameterization for texture mapping. In the first step of the algorithm we compute a planar triangulation of the faceted surface, using an Angle Based Flattening (ABF) formulation. This provides a mapping function from a three-dimensional surface to the plane. The ABF formulation defines the flattening problem as a constrained minimization probl...
